Stainless Steel Flange Purpose
Stainless Steel Flanges are used as a method of connecting Pipes, Tubes, Valves, Pumps, Fittings and other Equipment to form a Piping System. Flanges also provide easy access for Cleaning, Inspection or Modification and are usually welded or screwed together by bolting together two stainless steel flanges with a gasket between them to provide a seal.
The flange is slipped over the pipe and then welded both inside and outside to provide sufficient strength and prevent leakage. Slip-on flanges are also used as loose back-up flanges when stub ends are used.
This is a flange without a centre bore, used to shut off a piping system or vessel opening
BSP Threaded Flanges
The flange is screwed into Threaded BSP pipe or Threaded BSP Fittings to provide sufficient strength and prevent leakage.
Stainless Steel Flange Specifications
ANSI B16.5 - Pipe, Tube, Threaded and Blind Flanges
These are commonly referred to by their pressure rating class, ANSI 150 or 150lb. This standard specifies that for the standard 316L grade, the flanges must be forged except for blind flanges which can be made from plate.
AS2129 - Pipe, Tube, Threaded and Blind Flanges
They are commonly known as Table flanges and are usually made from plate or forgings, hence the pipe bore slip on, tube bore slip on, blind and threaded are the most common forms.
DIN PN16 (BS EN1092) - Pipe, Tube, Threaded and Blind Flanges
EN 1092 was created as the standard for DIN based flanges. (BS4504 flanges were generally the same as the old DIN 2501 specification, but the new EN 1092 standard covers a wider range). They are commonly known as DIN flanges or PN flanges.
